Fuel System Service
A full fuel system service should include both a chemical cleaning of your system and replacing any worn components. This could include your fuel pump, fuel filter or fuel injectors. Fuel filters should be changed every 30,000 miles or at the interval specified in your owner’s manual. Fuel pumps and fuel injectors don’t normally need to be replaced unless they are showing signs of wear. For your fuel pump, this could include hard starts or low fuel pressure. If your injectors are worn you may experience poor fuel mileage or misfires.
The chemical cleaning of your fuel system is to remove any deposits that may have settled in your fuel system over time. These deposits can build up in your fuel tank, your fuel pump inlet or filter, in your fuel lines, or on your fuel injectors. These deposits can reduce fuel flow, put extra stress on the fuel pumps and cause your fuel injectors to not deliver fuel properly to your engine causing problems.
In many cases simply performing a fuel system service can extend the life of your fuel pump and fuel injectors so we recommend performing the chemical cleaning step of your fuel system service every time you get your oil changed.
