Engine Light Service

The glow of the check engine light may stare hard into the eyes of a driver whose car suffers from some unwavering nuisance. While many people find this light to be a pesky little bugger and that is doing nothing but causing heart attacks and tears, it is actually a very helpful tool for drivers. The check engine light shouldn’t always be associated with expensive, time consuming repairs, more often than not the light is illuminated because of a small, easy to fix issue. It is important to always have the check engine light problem diagnosed as soon as it comes on in order to get to the root of the issue before a larger one arises. These are four of the most common check engine light problems in modern vehicles, starting with one of the worst.

Failed Catalytic Converter

One of the most detrimental issues that could arise from a check engine light diagnosis is learning that your car’s catalytic converter has bit the dust. The CC is the part of the exhaust system that converts dangerous fumes into less harmful emissions, which are then emitted from the tail pipe. This is bad news for your car because this part is one of the most expensive to replace on any vehicle. However it generally will not fail unless some other problem occurs first, which would triggered the light far before the failed catalytic converter. Many times the original problem was a failing O2 sensor, which is a cheap and easy fix.

Loose or Broken Gas Cap

On the complete other end of the problems that could occur is a loose or broken gas cap. This issue will allow gasoline vapors to evaporate out of the gas filler hose which would be detected by the EVAP system. To avoid having the check engine light light up just be sure to tighten the cap cap every time you fill up.

Bad Ignition Coil

If the ignition coil is having troubles accepting or relaying electricity to produce the spark necessary to get the engine started the check engine light will illuminate. The ignition is subject to regular wear and tear and may need to be replaced in high mileage vehicles in order to avoid hard starting.

Faulty MAF Sensor

The Mass Air Flow Sensor measures incoming air and calculates how much needs to be mixed with the gasoline to produce a properly running engine. If this sensor fails in can result in a rich running engine, which it is burning excessive levels of gas. This can cause a number of problems for the motor, including a huge decrease in fuel efficiency.
